Some of you may remember that a couple of months a go Nate and I were asked to teach 60 youth the waltz in preparation for the cultural celebration before the rededication of the Boise Temple.Well yesterday was the day. We got up dark and early excited for our 16 hour day! We were due downtown at 7 am and met our ride around 6:30. (We turned our sleeping children over to some good friends who then made the handoff to Nana and Papa around lunchtime. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!) We spent the day rehearsing, running up and down stairs from our seats to the stage, practicing entrances and exits, watching others rehearse, and building in anticipation for the prophet's arrival. This show was so no small undertaking. Our responsibility of teaching the kids in our building the waltz seemed a little overwhelming at times but it was truly miniscule compared to the magnitude of the event. There were over 9,000 youth from around 30 stakes singing (1000 voice choir) and dancing everything from the Samba, to Riverdance, the foxtrot, break dancing, and of course the waltz. A high light of the night was a number danced to "Give Said the Little Stream." There were girls dancing around giant maypoles with a giant moving stream weaving in and out of the maypoles. Giant fish jumped from the stream as a boat of fishermen "floated" down the river. It was a fun and beautiful sight! But the ultimate highlight was President Monson's grand entrance. The man loves a good party. We were told that this is a true celebration and that cheering was not only appropriate but encouraged. You would have thought the biggest rock star in the world had just taken the stage. The cheering was incredible! President Monson ate it up with his fist pumps, waves, and funny antics. It was truly an event to remember. Unfortunately by the time of the evening performance my camera battery was dead, but I was able to get a few shots earlier in the day.
